Production Chemist Level I

Reports To: Manufacturing Manager

Hours: Monday - Friday
8:00 am - 5:00 pm (30 minutes for lunch and 30 minutes for a break or 60 minutes for lunch)
Summary
Completes daily production requirements in an efficient manner while maintaining the highest quality by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Prepares initial protein extracts following standard operating and quality procedures.
2. Performs all required downstream purification to bring products to final specifications.
3. Responsible for updating current protocols to reflect current manufacturing practices.
4. Responsible for planning and executing manufacturing procedures assigned to them.
5. Responsible for maintaining basic levels of lab supplies and inventory chemicals.
6. Responsible for assay support for Production Technicians as assigned by Production Manager or Supervisor.
7. Lifts and carries required production equipment and materials throughout work areas.
8. Prepares buffers following standard operating and quality procedures.
9. Cleans and maintains equipment in accordance with company procedures.
10. Takes on added responsibility for other tasks, including but are not limited to: training Production Technicians, maintaining and organized and clean work area, and leading teams on preps as directed by the Supervisor or Manager.
11. Maintaining good documentation practices (GDP) and notation taking.
Other Duties
Other duties may be assigned as needed, general cleaning and any function to support the manufacturing team. Follows all safety protocols.
Qualifications
No experience in prior manufacturing required. The individual must be a self-motivated, hard working person, willing to put in some extra effort to go above and beyond the basic that is asked of them.
Education/Experience
At least an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Communication Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability verbally communicates with team members and coworkers to achieve tasks effectively and to write and record simple notes and figures.
Math Ability
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Computer Skills
Ability to use Microsoft Office ®, excel, word, and outlook. Ability to graph or track data produced during a typical manufacturing procedure. Ability to prepare presentations with PowerPoint® or pdf templates.

Balances
Chromatography columns, pumps, fraction collectors, and monitors
Clinical chemistry analyzer (Dade Dimension)
Filtration and ultrafiltration equipment
Gel electrophoresis and blotting equipment
Laminar flow hood
Lyophilizers
Mixers
Multi-well plate reader
Personal computer
pH and conductivity meters
Pipettes
Tissue homogenizers, grinders, and blenders
UV-vis spectrophotometers
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. Work requiring operation in an environment requiring PPE that includes but is not limited to use of various types of respirators, eye protection, face shields, and protective clothing and footwear.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
